Is underfloor heating expensive?
There many myths surrounding underfloor heating. One of which, is underfloor heating expensive which is an expensive luxury that only the more affluent of people could afford. The other is that underfloor heating costs a lot of money to run. Both of which are false.
ThermoSphere is the UKs only manufacturer of electric underfloor heating so, for the purpose of this article, we will focus on this type of underfloor heating.
Let’s start with buying electric underfloor heating using an example of a heated area in a bathroom that has a tiled floor measuring 2.5m2. So, to buy the underfloor heating kit which includes mesh or membrane and a programmable thermostat, it would cost, on average, under £300 in total. If you are looking for an installer to fit it, then add about half a day to your bathroom refurbishment project. Not as expensive or as time consuming as what you thought is it?
If you are thinking about installing underfloor heating under carpet or vinyl, then using a foil electric underfloor heating solution would be perfect. You may need to allow for a greater amount of labour to fit it as there is an additional layer of floor build up to consider. This equates to about one day per average sized living room.
What about underfloor heating running costs?
The cost of running your underfloor heating really depends on the installation build-up that you have gone for as well as other factors such as; if you have included insulation board, what temperature you will be running, the programme settings of your thermostat and what you pay for electricity where you live.
Taking all of these things into consideration and if the electric underfloor heating system has been installed correctly, then it would cost you less than the average takeaway coffee to run an electric underfloor heating system for a month (based on a 2m2 room).
